THE COURTSHIP

Blue mist lapped gently about her
As she swam to the center of the pool.
The sapphire water had lost it’s heat
As the night time air caressed and cooled.
She was safe and alone in her world
Dancing and dreaming between the reeds.
Humming softly to herself;
Spreading her wings carefully.
She gazed down into the water.
A mirror of shining blue.
There she saw a reflection
Of beauty so breathtakingly true.
She swam, danced, dived some more,
While the reeds bowed down as she passed.
Hearing something behind her;
Turned around then gasped.
Floating there in front of her
Another bird so magnificent.
She bowed her head in respect
Knowing he was heaven sent.
He cooed softly;
She shyly lifted her graceful head.
Looking into his knowing eyes;
All fear of him fled.
He swam close to her
As he placed his neck gently on her own.
They danced together in the moonlight;
Heart to heart, soul to soul.
Moving back, he spread his wings
While she spread her own.
They danced the mysterious courting dance
That only the universe has known.
The blue mist wrapped gently around them
As they gently became one.
It was then she knew that her life
Would never be lived alone.
